Opening keynote speaker

Professor Jacquelyn Campbell of Johns Hopkins University is our first confirmed Keynote Speaker for the 25th NNVAWI conference!

Jacquelyn Campbell is a national and international leader in research and advocacy in the field of domestic and intimate partner violence (IPV). She has authored or co-authored more than 230 publications and seven books on violence and health outcomes. Her studies paved the way for a growing body of interdisciplinary investigations by researchers in the disciplines of nursing, medicine, and public health. Her expertise is frequently sought by national and international policy makers in exploring IPV and its health effects on families and communities. As a nurse educator and mentor, Professor Campbell leads by example in inspiring new generations of nurse researchers. Her BSN, MSN, and PhD are from Duke University, Wright State University, and the University of Rochester. 

Day 2 keynote speaker

Dr Avni Amin works at the WHO’s Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research.

She is the unit head for the Rights and Equality throughout the Life course team and leads WHO’s work on violence against women. Her primary focus has been to lead research on health sector interventions to address violence against women, support development of normative guidelines and tools and support countries – Ministries of Health – in the translation and uptake of the evidence and guidelines to strengthen health systems response to violence against women. She has also led research on masculinities in the context of sexual and reproductive health as a gender equality issue. Avni is a passionate feminist scientist with a fierce commitment to gender equality and women’s health. She has a PhD in International Health from the Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health. She is originally from India and considers herself as a global citizen.

Day 1 closing keynote speaker

Dr.Kanokwan Tharawan, PhD

Dr. Kanokwan Tharawan has worked in Thailand in the field of sexual health and rights for the past three decades. She is a women’s health advocate and a gender specialist. Subjects of Dr.Kanokwan’s research and teaching as well as her intervention programs include sexual health, sexuality, gender-based violence, unplanned pregnancy, quality of life among teen mothers and their children, and most recently early childhood development. Dr.Kanokwan works to ensure that health needs among vulnerable populations are visible to policy community and appropriate policies are designed and implemented to respond to the needs. Dr. Kanokwan is currently an assistant professor at Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University. She is also a consultant for Women’s Health Advocacy Foundation, a Thailand-based women’s NGO which advocates for policy change to improve health coverage among vulnerable populations.
